“Where has time gone?” I find myself wondering this question as I write my last message as your ASSE International President. The in-person 2022 ASSE International Annual Meeting is just around the corner and it seems like only a few months ago I was elected — virtually — as President. I recall all the online meetings — the committee and planning “calls,” and the numerous talks with ASSE members and staff — both of whom greatly helped me through these past two years. It has been an amazing experience. As with all my time in ASSE, the results have been more than I could’ve imagined. The work, the bonds, the friendships, and yes, even the frustrations and disappointments, have been worth it. I encourage everyone to get more involved with ASSE. If you have an idea, tell someone. If you are asked to help out, say “yes.” In doing so, you will get more in return than you give.
So, what has been done? This question normally comes up when I look back at these past two years and beyond. Like everyone who has come into this position of President, I had a list of goals and objectives I wanted to accomplish, including ideas from many of you. I quickly found that there is limited time and that I’d better prioritize which goals and objectives best serve ASSE. The ASSE Board of Directors and I decided to move forward with some long-term changes that we feel will put ASSE on track to become a better overall organization in the future (along with a few other implementations to assist ASSE today). I will leave it up to our members and clients to decide if I helped or hurt ASSE overall. Time will tell!
