Health, Safety, & Water Quality

As we navigate the complex challenges of our time, ASSE remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding public health, promoting safety, and upholding water quality standards. As your president, it is my privilege to address these critical topics and outline our initiatives aimed at addressing them.

The ASSE 5000 (Cross-Connection Control), 12000 (Water Management and Infection Control Risk Assessment for Building Systems), 15000 (Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems), and 22000 (Water Treatment Equipment) series of standards play pivotal roles in protecting public health by establishing rigorous guidelines for the design, installation, and maintenance of plumbing systems, water treatment facilities, sanitation infrastructure, and fire protection systems. These standards help ensure that water is delivered safely to end-users, free from contaminants and pathogens that pose risks to human health.

ASSE Series 5000 focuses on backflow prevention and cross-connection control to safeguard potable water supplies. Series 12000 addresses safety in water treatment and distribution, ensuring that systems are designed and operated in accordance with industry best practices to minimize risks to both workers and consumers. Additionally, Series 15000 provides guidelines for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems.

ASSE standards establish protocols for the treatment, testing, and monitoring of water supplies. Series 22000 includes standards for water filtration and purification systems, and Series 12000 addresses water quality management, setting criteria for water purity and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

ASSE’s extensive portfolio includes more than 50 product standards and 13 professional qualification standards. These range from plumbing fixtures and appliances to water treatment chemicals and technologies. Through collaboration with stakeholders from diverse sectors, ASSE drives advancements in technology, research, and education to address evolving challenges and threats to public health and safety.

I am proud to lead an organization that is dedicated to promoting the highest standards of health, safety, and water quality. Our work is not merely a profession — it is a calling to serve humanity and protect the precious resources upon which life depends. Thank you for your unwavering support as we embark on this important journey together.
