ASSE Progress in 2023

The year 2023 has been a successful one for ASSE. It has seen significant advancements in ASSE standards, certifications, and membership, along with transformative changes within the organization. One of the major changes was the reorganization of how the Board of Directors represents different regions. Our recent Annual Meeting marked the first election under the new structure, where ASSE Membership elected two directors from four geographically designated regions.

2023 was also a busy year for standards development. On the professional qualifications side, ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 12000, focusing on Water Management and Infection Control Risk Assessment for Building Systems, and the ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI 15000, centered on Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems, are being revised. Additionally, two new standards — ASSE/IAPMO 22000 for Water Treatment Equipment Personnel, and ASSE/IAPMO 28000 for Inspectors of CIPP (Cured-in-Place-Pipe) Rehabilitation of Building Sewer and Drain, Waste and Vent Piping Systems, are currently under development.

On the Product Listings side of things, we are pleased to announce that ASSE International was recently granted the Certificate of Registration for the ASSE One Year Field Test (ASSE 1YT®) certification mark. ASSE also celebrates a significant surge in our listing program activities since mid-year, demonstrating a remarkable uptick projected to surpass pre-Covid numbers.

As we work to enhance membership benefits, staff is currently developing a new membership portal for ASSE members. This online platform will enable members to easily access their membership benefits, invoices, and purchase history, enhancing convenience and engagement. Furthermore, with guidance from the ASSE Membership Committee, ASSE has been committed to offering valuable educational opportunities. This year’s free seminars were well-received and included diverse topics such as “Beyond the Gray Water – Direct Potable Reuse for Residential Buildings,” “The Proper Installation and Use of Chemical Equipment,” and “Clear vs. Clean … They Are Not the Same When it Comes to Water.”

ASSE’s proactive initiatives, including enhanced member services, more educational resources, and increasing numbers of professional and product certifications, underscore its commitment to progress and excellence within the industry.
